The Guardian Angel Project is a law enforcement crime prevention program created by the Keokuk Police Dept. in 2002.
The program was created for teens who are having difficulties in life and making wrong decisions leading to a life of criminal activity and despair.
It is an eight-week program which partners the teens with positive role models from the community such as police officers, preachers, teachers, youth ministers, nurses etc. They work together to create a ceramic guardian angel figurine. Once completed we travel to the Children’s Hospital of Iowa where the teens and their role model partners deliver the angels they have created to children battling life threatening illnesses in the hospital.
Main Points for the Teens:
Do something for someone else using their talents and creativity.
Meet new and positive people who could motivate them and influence their lives.
Get to know the police on a different level.
Experience what it feels like to do something good for someone else.
Feel more fortunate about their lives.
Uplift the spirits of the ill children and their families in the hospital.
